About The Little Sky Eyes Foundation
The Little Sky Eyes Foundation was founded to honour Skyler Coghlan and her battle with Dravet Syndrome. Her parents, Bianca and Daniel Coghlan decided to create the foundation after years of fundraising events which often resulted in donating the money offshore, with Australian families missing out on seeking some much-needed funding to help them with extra financial challenges they face, due to the severity of a retractable epilepsy.
Our Goal
Our goal is to support Australian families affected by Dravet Syndrome and other rare epilepsies and similar diseases. Easing the burden of financial expenses to provide care, safety, and support for children affected by these diseases (and their families).
Skyler was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome at just six months old after she started having seizures at three months of age. From there, she’s had over 400 seizures, 100 ambulance callouts, 50 emergency department visits, and eight induced comas.

What is Dravet Syndrome?
Dravet Syndrome is a rare epilepsy caused by a mutation in the SCN1A gene. It can be inherited, or, in Skyler's case, ‘De Novo, ’ which means neither parent is a carrier; it was just unlucky. It affects 1:15,000.
This disease is retractable epilepsy; often, patients are on four or more anti-epileptic drugs with little success. Treating as only a short-term bandaid to try to gain some seizure control.
Dravet Syndrome and similar such rare epilepsies have comorbidities of:
- Cognitive Function and Intellectual Disability
- Behavioural and Developmental delays
- Movement and balance issues
- Heightened risk of SUDEP
- Prolonged seizures
Children affected by this disease need extra safety supports that can increase their quality of life such as:
- Safety surround beds
- Strollers for a growing child (who has outgrown their pram)
- Seizure alert dogs
- Home oxygen generators
- Home assistive technology of SATS monitors
- Seizure Monitors
A note from Bianca
“Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the Little Sky Eyes Foundation and for supporting this cause. I am forever thankful for every message sent with love, and support. This journey into parenthood with a medically complex child has been a challenging transition, and the village of support surrounding us and Skyler has helped me through some of our darkest times. It is our time to help give back to other families in need as best we can. Please contact us and reach out if you would like to discuss how to get involved with the foundation or any fundraising efforts.
Thank you for seeing my daughter for the sunshine and warrior she is.”
